Armadillo in Gaza for GANSO

Steve McCann of Armadillo and Chris Finucane were in the West Bank and Gaza in August 2009, and completed four training courses with 70 participants from 30 agencies, from Logistics Assistant to Country Director. Feedback was strong, particularly for the new approach to threat and risk analysis.

Armadillo and Chris’s company, Humanitarian Policy, joined forces to bid for the GANSO support project for training and technical consultancy services in Gaza and the West Bank in August and September 2009. This was on open tender that attracted some serious attention, so we were particularly pleased to be selected. The combination of the field-orientated approach of Armadillo and the focus on new tools and techniques from Humanitarian Policy was instrumental in gaining the contract.

As a result of their work together, Steve and Chris have developed a new vulnerability analysis tool that will be in use from now on, and are about to complete a baseline risk assessment with GANSO for Gaza, a much needed development.
Armadillo’s Michelle Mackintosh and Steve Ritchie replaced Steve and Chris for September. They focussed on working with individual agencies to develop their safety and security management capacity through thematic workshops, and one-to-one consultancy services developing security management plans, particularly contingency plans.
